What Eco-Schools have been up to

Idling Cars at Home Time

The Eco-Committee at Ysgol
Llanfaes in Powys noticed that

when parents were waiting in the
car park to collect their children

from school they were leaving the
engines of their cars running!

The children could hear the noise

pollution and knew that air pollution would be produced too. The eco-
committee made posters and signs which were placed in the school car

park informing parents of the issue and encouraging them to ‘save fuel and

turn off their engines’.

The committee also
donned high vis jackets

and patrolled the car park
for a week, ensuring that

any parents who had not

spotted their signs were
aware of the campaign. By
the end of the week, they

noticed a big difference;

not one car was sitting in
the car park with its engine idling. Da iawn!
