Circular Examples
Benthyg Cymru
One example of a circular economy that has been around
for a long time is the library. Nearly all of us have loaned
a book, read it, and returned it. This means lots of
people get to enjoy the book but only one needs to be
produced. So, what’s to stop other items being used in
this sustainable way?
Benthyg Cymru is a network of libraries in Wales where people can borrow
things they need but don’t own. Their mission is to make borrowing as easy
as popping out for a loaf of bread!
They provide communities with access to low-cost borrowing of everyday
items such as DIY tools, gardening and camping equipment. They aim to
increase resilience and confidence, whilst fostering a sense of community
and sharing.
