Single Use Plastics Bill

As part of Welsh Government’s strategy to move towards a circular economy,

the single-use plastic products Bill is currently progressing through scrutiny

in the Senedd.

The Bill bans the supply or sale of a range of single-use plastic products to

consumers in Wales, including the following items:

Plastic-stemmed cotton buds

Plates

Drink stirrers
Drinking straws

Cutlery
Sticks for balloons

Polystyrene cups and
takeaway containers

Oxo-degradable plastic products – a type of
plastic with added biomaterial which means they
break down quickly into smaller pieces of plastic,

but never biodegrade.
Plastic single-use
carrier bags

How might these changes affect your school?

Detailed guidance to support the implementation of the Bill is now being

produced. Welsh Government are keen for input from Eco-Schools in Wales so
keep an eye out for messages asking for your input on the guidance.
