Circular Examples
Let’s take a look at a couple of examples where we can make
circular changes
Circular Technology
Over recent decades technology and electronics have rapidly developed,
with each iteration offering newer features than the last. When we upgrade
or replace these items the previous version contributes to the mountain
of waste that we, as a planet, generate.
For example, in 2019 alone 53.6
million metric tonnes (Mt) of
electronic waste was generated
worldwide. How heavy is that you
ask?
Imagine every elephant in the world
(around 440,000) and times that by 42!
A huge amount of energy goes into producing electronics, from
extracting the raw materials and precious metals, to the manufacturing,
the packaging, and transporting the goods to shops. Every step of
the chain contributes towards the greenhouse gas emissions that are
dangerous to our climate’s stability.
