Improving school grounds with
Local Places for Nature
Coed Y Dderwen transformed their school grounds with a Keep Wales
Tidy Local Places for Nature package. By embracing outdoor learning and
sustainable gardening, they not only created a vibrant green space but
spearheaded their success at securing the coveted Eco-Schools Green Flag
Award.
After installing their garden with expert help from Keep Wales Tidy officers,
each class was assigned a raised bed and teachers linked lesson activities
with nurturing for the garden. Parents, carers and the community were
engaged as the pupils would ‘sell’ their produce by hosting a farmers’
market.
