Spotlight on RG417
This month’s interview is with Brett Trower, Superintendent RG417.
When did you start working at Loram and what was your first impression when
you arrived at the machine?
I started at Loram on June 6, 2016, so I’ve been with Loram for 5 years. My first im-
pression as a new hire when I arrived at the machine was, “Wow, what did I get my-
self in to?” I had no idea what to expect since I had never worked in the railroad in-
dustry before.
Can you tell us a little bit about your experiences over the last couple of years
at Loram that would be a good example of what Loram does and who Loram
is?
My experience with Loram has been great! I started off on the CSX Rail Grinders and
ended up on the NS Rail Grinders. I’ve operated both platforms from the RG400’s to
the RGS’s. I also went for a couple of months to an RIV truck and inspected rail for RG417. I’ve commissioned four
machines so far. RG417 was commissioned at the office in Hamel, MN. RG419 was commissioned in Adelaide, Aus-
tralia. RG420/RGS18 was commissioned in São Luís, Brazil. It has been an awesome experience having been able to
travel around the world while continuing my work with Loram.
What is your favorite task on the machine?
My favorite task on the machine is Fighting Right-a-Ways. It gets a little boring sitting in the support car so when a
fire in the ditch lines arises, I get excited and shoot it with our water cannons.
What is your favorite memory from this past year?
My favorite memory from this past year while working is when my boss talked to me about moving up to the next
level and becoming a Superintendent.
Define success for you at Loram what does that looks like?
Success here at Loram for me was the days that I was offered my promotions. I accepted the Assistant Superinten-
dent position on June 13, 2019. I then accepted my Superintendent position on October 30, 2020.
Do you have any hobbies?
My hobby when I’m at home is hanging out with my family and riding on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Spe-
cial.
What’s your favorite thing to do on days off?
My favorite thing to do on days off which is typically on Sundays is party like a Rockstar Saturday nights after work
and then sleep in on Sundays.
