My Emerald Isle

There would be at least twelve to fifteen huts in

the area which would create what we call the

Heritage Village. In the village, the food is all

local, and is prepared the way it used to be done

          way back then.

Our national dish which is the famous and tasty

goat water, ducna, cassava bread, and yard fowl

soup along with many local drinks such as

tamarind juice and ginger beer would be sold by
          the vendors in the huts.

Because of the diverse cultures that now reside in

Montserrat, we also have national dishes from

other Caribbean countries such as Jamaica,
Guyana, Antigua and Dominica, just to name a

few. So our celebration does not only cover

Montserrat, the Emerald Isle, it covers the

Caribbean as they too have experienced some

          form of freedom from slavery.
