My Emerald Isle

On St Patrick’s Day, the Salem village, also an Irish

name, comes alive. This is where the main

festivities are held. We would recreate huts that

resemble the ones our ancestors would have used

many, many, many years ago, with the dirt flooring
and straw-like walls and roofs. We had to be

careful to get the straw tied in the right way

because if it rains, Lord knows the soaking we

would get.
