Concentrated Solar Power
CSP technology concentrates sunlight
using mirrors and reflectors to collect solar
energy and turn it into thermal (heat)
energy. The heat creates steam to drive
turbines that generate electric power.

Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC)
Solar heating & cooling (SHC) technologies
also referred to as direct thermal or solar
heating collect the thermal energy from
the sun and use this heat to provide hot
water, space heating, and cooling.

General Overview of Solar Energy in the region
The Caribbean region is endowed with an abundance of natural resources where most of the
countries have started to diversify their energy mix to include solar, wind, hydropower,
geothermal and biomass energy. Examples of Caribbean countries with solar farms are as follows:
Country Size Location
Bahamas 438 MW Ragged Island
Barbados 10 MW Trent, St. Lucy
Dominican Republic 58 MW Montecristo
Jamaica 51.5 MW Paradise Park
Guyana 400 kW Mabaruma, Region 1
St. Lucia 3 MW North of Hewanorra International Airport
St. Vincent and the Grenadines 600 kW Union Island
