Public Health
Coal mining and oil and gas production contribute to high levels of air pollution, which causes
grave public health concerns. Also, the burning of fossil fuels contributes to air pollution and the
release of particulate matter. Renewable Energy, on the other hand, emits no air pollution.

Energy use within Societies
As a population grows, so does the need for more energy. Hence, your energy consumption or
energy demand will increase. Energy demand depends on various factors such as population,
urbanization, industrialization, and technological development. Energy is used in many sectors in
a country as transportation, residential, commercial, industrial, and electricity-generation.
Generally, the sectors that consume the most energy are the building (residential and
commercial), transport and industrial.
In the transportation sector, whether non-renewable (diesel or gasoline) or renewable (biodiesel
or ethanol) energy, both are used to power the engines of our vehicles. In the residential sector,
both non-renewable and renewable sources of energy can be used for transportation, cooking,
and electricity. The commercial sector is like the residential sector whereby energy is used for
