                                                  Solar PV Applications

The most common applications for Solar PV

               systems are:
                   1. Pico PV system or solar home systems

Pico PV systems are small systems that

are installed on homes. There are stand-

alone systems with or without battery

and are commonly used in remote or
isolated areas where there is no utility Source: Guyana Energy Agency

                       grid.

                   2. Rooftop solar PV systems
These systems are used for residential
homes and businesses and are mounted or
attached on the roof of buildings. Roof top
                       solar PV systems normally provide
electricity to the home or business.
Rooftop solar PV systems can be grid
connected or off grid. Where the system is
off grid, the electricity produced is used by
                                                                           Source: Guyana Energy Agency
the home or business. For grid connected
systems, the excess electricity goes into the electric grid.

                   3. Large Scale Utility PV systems
Large scale utility PV systems or plants are
designed to supply power to the electricity
grid. These plants require large land areas,
for example a 1MW solar farm,
approximately five (5) acres of land is
needed. A large-scale utility PV plant is a
                       solar farm.
