Excellence and eight hundred and twenty-one (821) received Certificates of Achievement. Thirty-four
(34) Individual Subjects Awards, one (1) Subject Group Award and one (1) Regional Top Individual
Subject Award were also recognized at the ceremony.
Certificates of Excellence and Recognition were also awarded to CAPE students. Five (5) students
received Certificates of Excellence in 2016 compared to one (1) in 2015 and three (3) students
received Certificates of Recognition in 2016 compared to four (4) in 2015.
The Ministry of Education continued in partnership with the BAPSS, ATLIB and Sagicor Life Inc. to

sponsor gifts to recognize the top CSEC awardees. A Samsung Tablet was awarded to the 1 and 2
rd
place awardees while a Samsung mobile phone was awarded to the 3 place recipient.
The Ministry of Education also awarded full scholarships to attend junior college and iPAD Tablets to
each of the first two outstanding students in the CSEC examinations. Sagicor Life Inc. sponsored the
plaques for the top three CSEC students and the Regional Top Individual Subject Awardee. BAPSS
donated the plaques for the four Subject Group Awards.
The Most Outstanding Student for the CAPE examinations received the Belize Scholarship which is
tenable at UWI or, on approval, at another University, an iPAD Tablet from BTL and a plaque from
ATLIB. The top three CAPE candidates also received a monetary gift from the ATLIB.
The Honourable Patrick Faber, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports & Culture, delivered the
Minister’s Remarks while the Guest Speaker, Mr. Alan Genitty, former Deputy Chief Education
Officer was the Keynote Speaker. Mr. David Leacock, Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Carol Babb,
Chief Education Officer, joined the Honourable Patrick Faber, in handing out certificates to the
awardees.
The CXC National Awards Ceremony serves to bring all education stakeholders together to recognize
the outstanding achievements of students who demonstrate exceptional performance in the CXC
examinations. The national media was again present to provide coverage to this momentous event and
to get the first impressions of the awardees.
Students who earned Grades I-III in six (6) or more CSEC subjects at the General/Technical
Proficiency Level including English A and Mathematics in one sitting, were again awarded a two-year
tuition scholarship at the Associate Degree level at any of the junior colleges or at the University of
Belize. A total of one thousand one hundred eighty-nine (1,189) students qualified for tuition
scholarships in 2016.
4.0 Workshops
Several workshops were conducted during the period of this report to address administrative or subject
specific issues. The workshops were coordinated by the Local Registrar and members of the
Examinations Office.
4.1 Local Registrar Workshops
(a) Workshops for all districts to train over two hundred Supervisors and Invigilators.
(b) Workshop for Spanish Oral Teachers to standardize the examination process.
