Appendix 1: Brief on the results of the SEA 2017 Review of Scripts
1) From the eighteen thousand one hundred and eighty (18180) students who wrote the SEA,
a total of three hundred and nine (309) students or 1.7% requested from CXC, a review of
their SEA scripts as follows:
a) Mathematics – 200
b) English Language Arts – 184
c) English Language Arts Writing – 274
2) Based on the results of the reviews, one hundred and forty-three (143) students or 46.3%
of those requesting reviews had an increase in their original scores. The number of students
having an increase in their original scores by subject area is as follows:
a) Mathematics – 88 or 44%
b) English Language Arts – 24 or 13%
c) English Language Arts Writing – 46 or 16.8%
3) The range of score points by which student scores improved are as follows:
a) Mathematics: 1 – 5 pts. with one student score increasing by 18 pts.
b) English Language Arts: 1 – 2 pts. with one student score increasing by 8 pts.
c) English Language Arts Writing: 1 – 4 pts.
4) As a result of the increase in scores of the one hundred and forty-three (143) students,
thirty-six (36) students or 25% had to be reassigned to a new secondary school.
