Appendix #4: Report on Implementation of of Computer-Aided Drafting
(CAD) method/applications for the teaching of CSEC Technical Drawing
and CAPE BMED
A brief report: The implementation of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) method/applications
for the teaching of CSEC Technical Drawing and CAPE BMED which is a requirement for
the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) compulsory registration for CAD for these
subjects from 2018.
The following provides an outline of the costs associated with the retrofitting/outfitting of
schools and training of teachers to satisfy CXC’s mandate in which came in a memo to the
Local Registrar, Ministry of Education dated January 25, 2017; Subject: Various Regulatory
Matters and Item 8: Required use of CAD for Technical Drawing & Building Mechanical and
Engineering Drawing (BMED) from 2018.
A total of one hundred secondary schools offer CSEC Technical Drawing with an average
67.4% pass rate for the last six years. On average two thousand students are registered for
CSEC Technical annually with approximately fifteen (15 %) percent using the CAD
method/applications.
