P. 402
a. The new syllabus introduces a CVQ element of the music program which is
contained in the SBA. Some clarification is needed on the requirements of this
component and the assessment process.
4. Submission of SBAs
a. Concern
st
In the new syllabus SBAs should be submitted by April 1 of the year of the exam
Trinidad and Tobago enters between three and four hundred students in
approximately eighty schools annually. Moderators will be required to visit these
schools and moderate the practical component and the written project of five
students per school. The submission of final marks by moderators is usually early
May. Music Practical exam must also be completed within a two week period in
early May. This will be a difficult task since teachers employed in this exercise also
have students to prepare for the exam. With the introduction of the CVQ component
in the SBA it is expected that moderators will be required to assess this component
of the exam as well.
b. Suggestion
SBA submission should be time tabled at an earlier date to facilitate the marking of
SBA and CVQ components to meet CXC’s deadlines. It is important that this
submission date be consistent throughout the Caribbean to ensure equity.
5. SBA Moderation (Pg. 60) Appendix III
a. Clarification is required on the moderation exercise on page 60 of Appendix III. It is
stated in bold that …the moderators will moderate solo performance and
ensemble of a sample of five students. In the second paragraph also in bold it is
stated that “teachers are not required to submit samples of students work unless
requested by the CXC council”. Does this mean that the written component of the
SBA will no longer be moderated?
6. In light of the new components of this syllabus it is necessary for workshops to be
conducted by CXC before the start of the syllabus implementation in September 2018, to
ensure that teachers are aware of the new requirements of the examination and can prepare
for implementation in the new academic year.
