GREENS & GROUNDS From Don Logelin
Hello from Greens, Grounds, and Water ..
In April, we had a major problem with the main water pump resulting in a major repair. The pump itself
basically ‘froze up’. To give you an idea, the well is about 1,000 ft. deep however the pump is set at 550 ft.; the
pump and 550 ft. of shaft that drives the pump needed replacement. A month earlier the motor that drives the
pump was repaired itself at a cost of $8,500. Pump and shaft replacement was $53,000.
We are currently pumping 950-1000 gallons of water per minute. Typically, this type of repair will last on the
average of eight to ten years. As of this article, we are waiting for an estimate to repair or replace the electrical
panel (37 years old) that operates the 250 horsepower pump motor. In twenty-four hours, the motor and pump
will pump approximately 1,400,000 gallons of water.
The pond next to hole number eight green is the reserve pond, which is why when this crisis occurred, the pond
was drained to water the course. To refill the pond, it takes three to five days running the pump for 24 hours a
day.
TIDBITS FROM THE 18 HOLE LADIES ASSOCIATION From Kal Logelin
The past few months have been extremely challenging..
In March after battling cancer, we lost our President, Fran Lindgren. Fran was a great asset to our Association
and will be missed by all who knew her.
Due to ‘social distancing’ imposed by Federal and State mandates, we cancelled our Solheim Cup event, our last
two General Meetings, and several luncheons. We did however, elect new Officers for 2020-2021 and they will be
installed at our first luncheon scheduled for the second Tuesday in November. Additionally, we proceeded with
our Club Championship. Leigh Klasse is the 2020 Club Champion (4 years in a row), and Sarah Smith is the 2020
Super Senior Club Champion.
I would like to thank all current Officers, Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs, as well as volunteers who assisted with
the Ladies events throughout the past year. Although there were some obstacles along the way, we can be grateful
for our beautiful course, good take-out food and beverages, and most of all, the many friends we have at Briarwood.
Wishing everyone a healthy and enjoyable summer. I look forward to November when we are all together once
again.
Club CULTURE
INTEGRITY
The strict adherence to a standard of value or conduct; it is personal honesty and inde-
pendence. Golf is a game of honesty, etiquette and composure. You are responsible for
your actions and personal conduct on the golf course.
Briarwood [Organizational] integrity means as members we know who we are, what we stand for
and what/who we want to be. Aligning with doing things right always keeps our organization on a
good path towards success. Are we modeling the behaviors that others would want to be a part of?
