7. PIRACY* .
During tha ocrly and middle parts of the yoar, an
Iranian Baluchi named Uirza bln Birkat waa carrying on ©laving
and piracy from a baso in Fujairah, whora ho enjoyed the protection
of tha Sheikh* He was subsequently evicted on pressure being
brought to boor on the Sheikh through the Vfali of Sohari and the
Political Agent, Bahrain, who later visited Fujairah, found that
he had shifted his headquarters, and cautioned tho Sheikh against
receiving him again* At the oloae of the year, he was reported
to be based near Jask (he is a Jaski).

The French Consulate remained closed throughout tha year.
9. MISSIONARY Y/OBX.
Tho evangelical work of tha American South Arabian
ISiaeion (The Butch Reformed Church of the United States of America)
ha3 been carried on by the Rev, and Sirs, Dykstra. They left for
their usual hot weather visit to South India in August and
returned in October, • ThojiTa remained in charge of the
medical oide of the Uisslon at their hospital at tfatrah; and he
has a new assistant, Dr, Job*
10. SLAVERY*
During the year thirty-eight slaves applied for
manuraicoion certificates and twenty-seven slavoa were manumitted*
Of tho thirty-eight applicants twenty-two were captured slaves
(of Whom fifteen vers manumitted) and ths remainder were domestic
slaves.

Tha total rainfall during the year was 0*63 inches* The
look of rain woe felt throughout tha year and the local drinking
water supply has become unpleasantly salt* The summer this year
