                 Owing to thw war no export or import trade with the United
           Kingdom was possible and import from India was also limited.                  i

                 Mr. Yahya Nozri was in-charge of this brsinch up to the 18th
           June when he was transferred to Kermanshah owing to his political              !
           activities and was succeeded by Aqal Abul Qasiin Perez.
                  This branch stores benzine and kerosine oil mostly in bulk
           and has seven tanks built up for the purpose. Supply comes via
           Isfahan in motor oil-tankers. Average monthly consumption of the
           area was as follows :-

                  The society had suffered a great loss from the flood of 1941,
           which destroyed the church, hospital and many other surrounding
           buildings. After the floou the hospital was closed but a midwifery
           Centre for poor people was maintained throughout the year. The
           Rev. H.C. Gurney, arrived in Yezd on the 16th September and took up
           the post of Fastor-in-Charge of the Yezd C.M.S.

                             IV. FORSIGN INTERESTS .
                  There were no foreign representations in the area.

                  Owing tc the v»or very little import nr.d export trade fx'.ve and
           to foreign countries coulo be maintained.

                            V. LOCAL GOV7ilRrT:.rCNT.
                  Farmandar .
                 Aqai Ahmed Sadri held the post of Far:nandar, Yezd throughout
           the year. His handling of the food situation invited criticism and
           latterly there were reports that he was not uninterested in the
           hoarding 'racket* himself} but on the whole he maintained his
           position with tact and discretion, and was ready to cooperate with uc
                  Towards the close of April 1942, orders were received that
           Yezd should be subordinated for administrative purposes to the
           Isfahan Ustandari. The Governor of Yezd never recognised this
           position and continued to hav$ dealings direct with the Central
           Government.
                 Police.
                 Major Sharif 1, an officer with a record of anti-British
           activity at his previous post in Zahidan, was Superintendent of
           Polico throughout tho year* At present he is engaged in trying to
           appear enthusiastic ally pro-British.
