Economic and Finance Department.
Aqai All Lani held charge of the Economic Department till
1st April 1942, when he handed over to Aqai Mehdi Quli Azarl,
Director of Finance and at the some time both the departments
wore amalgamated.
Aqai Azari was also tranoferred on 5th August and succeeded
by Aqai Siddiq Waziri. The latter has a good reputation.
Municipality*
Aqai Abbas Sadr held the post of the«'Raia-i-Shahrdari« till thi
10th September when ho was relieved by Aqai.Mustofi.
No now road was built but old road* were Kept in a fair
state of repair.
Agriculture.
Aqai Ahmed Maisrai held charge of the Agriculture Department
up to the 12the November, when he was transferred, handiwg over
•v«r charge to his assistant.
Yezd is not an agricultural district and the produce of the
district ishardly sufficient for six months consumption of its
population. No encouragement was given to improve the cultivation
of grain but a mission from Tehran arrived in Yezd to improve the
cultivation of poppy.
Health.
Aqai Hessen Mushid, held the post of Health Officer throughout
the year. The public health remained normal and there were no
serious epidemics during the year. A new Government hospital was
opened on H.I.M. Shah*s birthday.
Education.
Aqai Ahmed £omi, held the post of Rais-i-Farhong throughout
the year. He is an unpopular and corrupt officer and also a member
of the ,fHisb-i-Kuss^:ni*« He is reported to be pro-German.
No new schools were opened during the year.
Industry and Development.
Yezd is e-Kindustrial district arid it is said that 90 % of its
populatidn earn their livelihood by weaving cloth in their own
houses end selling it to the local market. Besides thi6 "there are
5 factories*, in the town.
(1) Heratl Mill.

3,OO0|0G0, which is now doubled, it is the sole property of Ali
Mohd Herati and his nephews Mohd Agha and Kazim Agha Heratis.
_ It is a spinning and weaving fadtory for cotton work only*
^*1/ output is about 190 bundles of yarn of 10 lbs each and 400
yards of cotton cloth. There are 400 people working in this factory
on two shifts, who are fed by the management. It is fitted with
2 ?otors «ach 128 H.P. and 100 K.Vta., type
&.F«o03/19*12 B«2. There are 9 machines for cotton spinning work

BRIK CHEMNITZ*, li.A.IT. MSIELIKNS *• SCHUCKERT (Germany) and
*2NG0LSTADT* TRUTZSCHLER*.
(2) Durakhshan Mill.
Established in 1932-33 at a total cost of 6,000,000/-
Rials. Half of this factory is the property of Messrs Herat!, and
