This deficiency was remedied by the increusc of inports from the
United Kingdom, Persian Gulf and Iraq, The export figures uay lave been
much higher except tlat there was a temporary embargo placed by the
Government of India on the ir.iport of dates into that country by steamer,
and as India is the only buyer of Muscat1 s dry dates the loss to the
date trade vras considerable during the period when the position v/as
being clarified.
