                (b) Civil Air Agreement - A Civil Air Agreement between His
           Majesty*s Governnont and His Highness the Sultan was signed at
           Dhofar by the honourable the Political Resident and His Highness
           on the 5th April 1947.

           7. FRENCH Ii.TKRSSTS
                The French Consulate remained closed throughout the year. Four
           French warships called at i.Iurbat in Dhcfar during March. They were

           described as one large afcd three small chips, one of the smaller vessels
           had engine trouble and the ships left jfurbat after carrying out the
           repairs, and curing the period of their stay only their interpreter
           went ashore.

           8. AMIPJCAi.' IliTMRMSTS
               A party of American Trans world Airlines officials acconpanied
           by Mr. U'aldo Hailey, Vice Consul, Dhahran and one General arrived

           in Muscat by air during I,larch for or.e day. Their visit was in
           connection with uhe use of aerodromes in .Muscat territory by the Trans
           world Airlines of A’'.erica.
               The United States Destroyer rtKy.rs.n?! (3>CG0 tons) with Captain

           R.I. V.’clverton tr.c Coriander j/2. Smith, in co.viand, visited Muscat
           in i.iay and left after tlnrec days. The men were s:.art and well behaved
           and their visit v.ss appreciated by the Sultan* s representative, Saiyid

           Shihab, acting on behalf of His highness as this was the first American
           v/arship to call at Muscat for 40/50 years.
           9. niSSIOHAHY SORK
               Reverend Dykstra and Dr. T/.T/. Thoms, IJ.D. served on behalf of the

           Dutch Reformed Mission in Muscat throughout the year. Both Mr. Eykstra
           and Dr. Thoms attended a Mission Conference in Easrah in Koveober and            ’
           during their absence the Muscat Government ordered the Ui'.sion School           '

          to be closed on the grounds that the Muscat Government had not been asked
           permisaion to open it in the first place. The I!isslon authorities it
           is understood wrote direct to the Sultan for his assistance in settling

          the question*
