            attempting a little exploration on his own and discovered what he hopes
            will prove to be a profitable mica mine, and also high quality iron ore
            deposits. The report cf Sir Cyril Fox, Director of Geological Survey

            of India, at the time, who surveyed the Dhofar region early in the year,
            has given His Highness high hopes of the potential mineral wealth of that
            region of his territory.

                  His highness maintained ;ood health throughout the year, but
            proposes visiting Eoubay s! crtly for a thorough medical examination
            a.-.d attention by dental, and eye specialists.
                   (b) Saiyid Shihab bin Faisal

                  He continued acting as His Highness the Sultan’s representative
            at Ceremonials throughout the year. On the occasion of the visit of the
            U.3. Destroyer MHynanrt to Lfuscat in hay, Saiyid Shihab entertained the

            Captain and ether officers at an Arab luncheon, and presented the Captain
            with a silver teapet and sugar bowl as a gift. Saiyid Shihab has not
            been keeping very well and intends going to Sohar after the Sultan’s
            return, if the Sultan will permit him.

                  (c) Saiyid Tai-ror bin Faisal
                  The ex Sultan remained in India throughout the year, but is

            planning a visit to Dhcfar sometime in 194o.
                  (d) Saiyid Ahmed bin Ebrahira
                  lie remained in office as the ISinister for the Interior. The
            Sultan evidently expressed his disapproval of Saiyid Ahmed’s handling

            of the ’’Star of Mex** case and at one tine he feared that he was in
            danger of losing Ms post.
                  (e) Saiyid Taric bin Tiaraur

                  He continued as president, Municipal Council throughout the year,

                  Saiyid Fal.r bntered the Indian Military Acadery at Dehra Dun
            at the beginning of the year a.id tv/o reports from the Acadeny show that       |

            he impressed the authorities very favourably and was considered almost, the
            best c^det of his platoon.
