Sheik of Bahrein was informed verbally on lines
proposed in my telegram No.185 and ogain pressed for an
assurance in writing. iy .v- .
2. I understand that on September 20th.in reply to
a question in the House of Commons, Mr. Maynow stated
tliat the Persian Government was aware that the British-
Government had not changed its view that Bahrein was an
independent Arab Sheikhdom in special relation with the
British Government.
5. As this question and answer have presumably been
published I can see no liana in forwarding a copy or them
to the Sheik in reply to his request far a written
assurance. If you agree, will you kindly despatch
urgently by bag or telegraph, full text of question and
answer.
4. At the same interview, the Sheik asked far on
assuranoc of nroteotion against external aggression. I
am examining this matter and will report further.

No. 4.
