Mr. 7. J. Wakolln arrived in Bahrain on Ootr 6, 1941
during my abaonoe in India, he inmed lately took over
his duties as Dirootor of Education. He has oarrlod
out his work In a satisfactory manner without causing
rosontmont among the publio who for aovoral yoaro have
made Oohool administration a uubjeot for logltimato
and illegitimate oritioism. Mr. Wakelin, during his
firot term, has had aovoral rather difficult incidents
to deal with and ho has handled thorn in a sensible
mnnnor. Soon after ho took ovor^a group of studonts
from Muscut arrived in Bahrain to bo oduouted ut the
Secondary School whore thoy remained for about two
months refusing to work and bohaving In a moot unsuitable
way. Eventually they wore returned to Muscat. Mr.
Wakolln displayod taat and restraint ovor this inoidont.
During the term Mi'. Wakolln moved tho ^ohool Hostel
from tho building which it provioualy oooupiod to a new
house whoro tho boys aro ouocoosfully installed. Mr.
Wakelin has showed himself to bo onurgotio in visiting
oountry schools whioh have always laokod the amount of

supervision whioh has beon given to tho big aohools in
tho towns and he has made oontaots with many of the
fathors of the boys by visiting thorn in their houses
and seeing thorn in his offioe.
Eduoatlon lri Bahrain is ostensibly under the
direction of Shaikh AbdulJ^bin Isa who is known as
tho Ministor of Education. Mr. Wakelin has ondeavoured
to diocuou with Shaikh Abdulla all mattora oonoorning
