4. The Amir spent the afternoon with me and
I discussed the question of the Bahama fully. I told
him that the Kejdis in Bahrain had a privileged posi
tion, and mentioned that v/e expected good treatment
for all genuine Bahama in Qatif, and th&t we consider-i

cd it our duty to see that they had it. IAmentioned
that we had to take up their case as far away as Mu-
hamuerah. lie said that they considered Bahrain and
Qatif as one ( a remark that one often hears, and tfone
which Shaikh Hamad himself is fond of using ) and
said that they gave even better treatment to Bahijana /.
that to to Qatifis.

1 Abbas he said that he had been imprisoned for smug- ■
' gling and said that his goods were still in the bus- ..

j toms at Saehat where he lived. When I mentioned thatV"
v/e had heard that he had tl(pn up my letter, he appear-,
ed genuinely horrified, and said that it would be im-'
possible for him to do such a thing, I said that I i ■
had of course not believed it, and had merely mention- .
ed it so.that he might know what had been said.
He appeared to know nothing about the case of ^ah-
sem bin Kaji Ibrahim, and said that he would make in.- >■:
