In Table 3 all the Municipal areas have been
classified as urban together with the suburbs of
Manama and Moharraq. The rural areas comprise
16 village areas with populations ranging from 3,000
to 200. On this basis 79$ of the indigenous Bahrain
population were living in urban areas in May 1959 and
98$ of the immigrants. If the definitions used in
Tabic 3 are accepted, therefore, 82$ of all those
resident in Bahrain at the time of the census were
