               Witli roferonco to correspondence ending with, my No. 30, dated 1st Feb­
           ruary 1887, I lmvo the honour to submit translation of a lettor No. 18, dated
           28th Fobruary 1887, from tho Residency Agent at Bahrain and an accompani­
           ment, boing tho deposition, of the Nakhoda of a Balirain vessel, to the effect
           that on 20th Fobruary his boat was attacked when lying olf the village of
           Safwa of El-Katif by Beni ITnjir robbers, and a passenger, a native of Safwa,
           killed. One of tho robbers was also killed it appears. Tho party of Boni
           Ilajirs soom to havo previously robbed another Bahrain boat which was anchored
           oil tho samo village.
               I shall inform tho Political Resident in Turkish Arabia of these fresh dis­
           orders in tho jurisdiction of the Kuiiu Makam of Kalif.

               I soud hcrowith tho deposition of Ahmed Nasir, Nakhoda of Noosaia bin
           Matar's boat, about nn encounter with robbers at Bandar Safwa, a port of
           Katif. Tho Chief of Bahrain sent tho Nakhoda to me to take his deposition
           and send it to you and beg you not to overlook the case.


           No. 124.
                                Deposition of Ahmed bin Nasir.
               On tho night of tho 20th February, my boat was anchored off Safwa, a
           villago of Katif, loadod with dates for Bahrain. At ebbtide we wore asleep
           when three Beni Hajir mon surprised and fired upon tho boat and wounded
           a passongor, a nativo of Safwa. Tlioy also wounded ono of tho crew with u
           lanoe in tho right thigh. Tho pn6souger diod at ouco. Thoro wore threo other
           passongors from Safwa and tlioy fouglit with and killed ono of tho Boui Najirs
           who took tho body away with them. Next day the people of Safwa pursued
           tho Boni Najirs and found tho dead body left on the road. Tlioy brought it to
           tbo villago and told tho Beni Najirs tlicro that their pcoplo had killed the
           passenger and gavo thorn tho body of their tribesman. Tlioy domandod of tho
           Beni Iloiirs tlio two surviving robbers and gavo them tliroo days to produco
           tbom, failing .which tlicro should be war. Anotlior Bahrain boat was anchored
           near us. Whon tbo robbers had gono tho crew of tbo other boat camo and told
           us that tlio robbers bad taken from them a gnu and clothes and 80 rupees.
           Tho gun was left by tho robbers on board our boat.
