10. On receipt of Captain Guthrie’s report of the unsettled state of affairs
I despatched tlio XCugli'Jloso to Bahrein.
11. From tho various reports received it appears that the following are
tho facts of tho case. A body of 300 or 400 of tho Boni Hajir tribo assembled
on tbo Guttur Coast, and mado serious attempts to gain possession of boats
with tbo intention of making a piratical raid on Bahrein. With tlicso Bedouins
woro two relations of Nasir bin Mobarik, namely, Humad bin Abdullah, his
undo, and Salman bin Ahmed, a cousin: Tho proposed attack, howover,
seems to havo been planned with tho object of plundering Bahrein and not of
any permanent conquest.
Certain parties of Arabs enmo by driblets to Bahrein from tho main, avow-
cdly to assist Sheikh Esau, hut it is likdy that many of tlicso would join in any
c.meute.

12. There can be no doubt that tho opportuno appcaranco of tho Mag
Frere and tho prompt arid zealous stops taken by Captain Guthrio to support
tho Cbiof had an excellent effect, aud I would recommend this officer’s conduct
for the approval of Government.
13. From the report of Captain Campbell, Commanding lho Hugh Hose,
dated 24th August, it appears that Sheikh Esau had no further apprehensions
of attack, and I trust the next reports will confirm this.
14. The Hugh Hose remains for the present at Bahrein, and X Iiuyo instruct
ed tho Commauder to avoid any communication with tho Turkish Governors
and to keep within Bahrein waters so far as this may bo compatible with
effectual suppression of piratical attempts. .
15. The Senior Naval Officer has also arranged for a vessel of war to visit
Bahrein at an early date.
