                     It having been reported to me that certain evil disposed pcoplo of tho
                 Beni Uajir tribe under Unmad bin Abdoolla and Salman biu ITamad, at present
                 at Quttur, meditato a marauding expedition agaiust tho inhabitants of Bahrein,
                 and that it is their intention to obtain boats for thoir couvoyanco from the
                 Port of Ojnir, I lmvo most respectfully to request you will oxpress your dis­
                 approval of such proceeding, aud caution the proprietors of boats at Ojnir
                 against allowing their craft to bo used for such purposo, also to guard against
                 tho Boni Ilnjir takiug them by stratagem.
                     Tho matter has been roported to the llcsidcnt, to whom I submit a copy of
                 this request.

                     I am directed by ITis Excellency tho Viceroy and Governor-General in
                 Council to acknowledge receipt of your lottcrs, No. 1000, dated 3rd Soptomber,
                 and No. 1039, dated 12th September, regarding tho affairs of JJakroiu.
                     2.  Theso letters refer to a threatened attack on Bahrein by a party of the
                 Beni Ilnjir tribo reported in your tclogram of 0th Soptembor. In my lolc-
                 gram of 13th Soptomber instructions wero givon to you to tako offcctivo stons to
                 dofond Bahrein against aggression by any Chiefs or tribes of tho Porsian Gulf.
                 Xlia Excellency in Council is glad that iu this iustanco tho difficulty lias passed
                 ovor without tho necessity of using force, and ho approvos of tho proceedings
                 of yoursolf nud of .Captain Campbell, Commanding tho Hugh Hosq, and Cap­
                 tain Guthrie, Commanding tho May Frcrc.
                     3.  In tho prosent aspect of affairs it is not desirablo that you should
                 have any communications with tho local Turkish officials regarding Bahrein.
                 Any nocossary representations can, under present circumstances, bo mado with
                 moro offcct through Ilcr Majesty’s Ambassador at Constantinople under instruc­
                  tions from tho Secretary of Stato for Eorcign Affairs. Inlcrforonco in the
                  affairs of Bahrein and of the Arab Chiefs on tho Coast should, ns fiu* as practi­
                  cable, bo limited to protecting tho legitimate interests of British subjects,
                 maintaining our Treaty rights, and performing our Treaty obligations. "When
                  those nro affected it will be propor to tako steps to putmattors right; otherwiso
