quent on their defeat hy tho Nacom. Had they not asked for quarter their
loss would havo boon greater, and had tho Nacom Chief known that his
brother had received his death-wound, ho would not havo ordered his men
to cease fighting wlicu tho Beni Hajir asked for quarter.
23rd September.—A kosBid from El-Hassa arrived with a letter for tho
Commander of the Turkish vessel lying at ICatccf. Tho Kateof authorities nro
looking out for a pilot to tako the vessel to Gutter.
25/4 September.—Bahrein divers have returned to tho island; they slato
that tho Turkish Bhip was on her way to Gutter.
Sheikh Ahmcd-bin-Khalccfnh-ol-Katnm is to proceed to tho Nneem at
Zobarah on the part of Sheikh Esau-bin-Ali. Ilia kiusmen, tho 70 men of
the Al-Morrah, have gone to their homes promising tojjoiu Sheikh Ahmed-
cl-lCatam at Zobarah.

I 11A.VJ-; tho honor to transmit herewith, for tho information of His Excel
lency the Viceroy and Govoruor-Qcucral of India in Council, a prdcis of tho
most recent intelligence received from Baliroin.
2. It will be observed that tho Turkish gun-boat Iskhandcria has
visited tho Gutter Coast apparently on purpose to make ouquiry concerning tho
recent occurrences and proceedings of tho Beni Ilajir tribe, and it would ap
pear that the Turkish officers havo taken tho Chiefs of El-Bidda and the Agont
of tho Governor of El-Hassa to task in tho matter.
3. Nasir-bin-Moharck is reported to have returned from El-Hassa to tho
sea-coast, whore his prcsonco will enuso additional anxiety ns rogards Bnhrciu.
•A. Tho pearl divers have, however, by this' time returned to Bahrein, so
that tho Chief of the islands should havo ndequato forco at his disposal to
repel attack. Tho prcscnco of a vessel of war is still necessary, and I havo
informed the Senior Naval Officer to this offcct.

Precis of intelligence received from tbc Ncws-wrilor at Baliroin.
5/4 October.—It is reported that tho Turkish vessel Islchandcria has
come from Kateof to Gutter to mako inquiries regarding recent disturlianccs.
It is said they upbraided Jassim-bin-Thanco on account of his complicity in
tho proceedings of tho Beni Hajir. Ho replied
• OoTcruor of Ltvliin. that all was caused by Bazee,* who had written to
him by ono of tho Hnjirco Cliiofs desiring him to assist the Beni Hajir and
not Btand aloof. This lottcr was shown to tho Turks by Jnssim, and they took
it away with othor lottors. Tho Turks inquired about the piracy at sea and
movomonts of troops. Ho' repliod that Bazco had ordered tho movoments, and
that only ono vessel had been plundered at sea, in which was property of Ins
own. That ho had asked tho pirates to rcstoro tho property. The lurks wroto
down his statements and blamed him much for the disturbances. Tho lurks
thou asked tho Amcor t about movoments of troops.
