So, the area of nanotechnology is engineering how to create
molecular-sized machines to manipulate and control an object. Through
nanotechnology, materials can be designed in such a way as to obtain the
desired properties and minerals without wasting unnecessary atoms.
Remember that one of the principles of green chemistry is atomic
economy (through nanotechnology, materials can be designed in such
a way as to obtain the desired properties and materials without wasting
unnecessary atoms). Therefore, nanotechnology is one of the
applications of green chemistry principles for the purpose of
environmental preservation.
In simple terms, nanotechnology is a material engineering
technology at the nanometer scale or one by one billion meters
(10-9) of atoms or molecules to obtain properties that can be
controlled as desired. The concept of nanotechnology was first
introduced by physicist Richard Feynman in 1959 through his
presentation entitled "There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom".
Nanotechnology is a result of utilizing the properties of nanometer-sized
molecules or atomic structures, which will produce extraordinary new
