STEP 1. SIGHT
Make the right first impression with stunning visuals.
Sight is arguably the most important of the human senses, as the eyes contain two-thirds of all the sensory cells
in a sighted person's body. For that reason, it’s important that event planners devote a generous portion of
1
their budget to making a strong visual impression on attendees from the moment of their arrival through their
farewell handshakes.
Research in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that sight creates a sense of ‘awe’ in
people. It causes them to work more collaboratively and form stronger groups and communities. This is
2
obviously very important in an event or conference setting.
Some ways to incorporate captivating visual elements at your event are motion, lighting, visually stimulating
presentations, high-definition displays and video walls, VR, projections, and impressive stage design.
Lighting
Lighting can have an extremely powerful effect on event space and guests. In fact, it is one of the first – and
easiest – things you should do to appeal to attendees’ sense of sight. Lighting can be used to create ambience
at your event and direct attendees’ attention to certain areas, speakers, products, or displays.
• LED lighting can be electronically mixed to produce any desired color as well as motion and pattern effects
• Use uplighting to tie in a brand or theme color and create an impact as guests enter the room
• Gobos, which is short for ‘Goes Between’ or ‘Goes Before Optics’ are an eye-catching way to communicate
your brand or event message
• Full stage lighting and front or back lighting with programmable dimming capabilities can add drama to
your presentation
• Follow spot services can highlight guest speakers, performers, and audience members
