ACTIVITY 10 Building Greater Sentences
Combine these short sentences into one sentence. You can add new words and move words around,
but you should not add or omit any ideas. More than one answer is possible, but all of these sentences
require adverb clauses.
1. a. Death Valley is the hottest place in North America.
b. Death Valley is the driest place in North America.
c. An enormous amount of plant life exists there.
d. An enormous amount of animal life exists there.
2. a. The human body is made up of atoms.
b. There are several billion atoms.
c. It also contains a huge amount of empty space.
3. a. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave a speech in 1963.
b. The speech was his famous “I have a dream” speech.
c. He gave the speech in Washington, D.C.
e. Approximately 250,000 people were there.
