ACTIVITY 5      Common Error 8.2

           Read the following sentences and underline the subordinating conjunctions. Write S if
           it is a complete sentence. Write F if it is a fragment. Be prepared to explain how you
           would correct the fragment.

                    1.  Some people call a doctor whenever they feel sick, while others prefer to
                     wait a day or two.

                    2.  Because raccoons have been able to adjust to life in urban centers very well
                     in many parts of the U.S.

                    3. While some people say they never forget a face.

                    4. After there is lightning, there is always thunder.


                    5.  Although in the past American young people typically moved out of their
                     parents’ homes after they graduated from high school.

            RemembeR: Both the adverb clause and the independent clause need a subject and verb.
