RED VARIETALS & BLENDS

#1.LW2 2019 Shadowfax / Mondeuse Geelong / Port Phillip, Vic
Mondeuse is rarely encountered in Australia although it has been a winemaking grape for centuries. It is believed to have originated in the ancient
vineyards of the Savoie, France, as far back as the 10th century. Its wine was used by monks of then newly-established monasteries on the edge of Lake
Bouger in this eastern French region. It is also planted in Italy, Argentina and California. The name Mondeuse seems to have been handed down from
generation to generation without mention of it being made in writing and the origin of the name seems t o be lost. Because Mondeuse ripens late in
the season the vineyards in its homeland are situated to take the greatest advantage of the sun, and even with precaution, there have been seasons when
the grapes have failed to ripen. Pairs well with sausages, veal schnitzel, roast chicken and beautiful cows milk cheese, such as Comte or aged Gruyere.

“Mondeuse. Mon Dieu! Beautiful light-bodied red. Floral, spicy pleasant sweet greenery of whole bunch, raspberry and red cherry. It’s earthy and lightly
chalky, wonderful spread of pumice tannin, precise crunch and succulence all at once. The finish is all charm, length, root beer, violet and other sexy things.
         Love this”. Campbell Mattinson-94 Points

#1.LW2 2018 Bodegas Colome Estate / Malbec Salta, Argentina
Bodega Colome is nestled in the Calchaqui Valley, 2300 meters (7500 feet) above sea level, in the Argentine northwest. Founded in 1831, it is one of the
oldest existing wineries in Argentina. In 2001, it was acquired by the Hess Family Estates. Those who enjoy their wines recognize in them the true taste
of wines made with grapes of the highest quality and grown in the highest vineyards in the world (7218-10,207 feet above sea level) reflecting the soul
of its terroir. Bodega y Estancia Colome’s philosophy consists in the commitment to implement biodynamic agriculture, whose principles were outlined
         by the researcher Rudolf Steiner.

“Toasty black fruit aromas are herbal but also lively. A lush and saturated palate is a true mouth filler, while this Malbec pumps out blackberry and crème de
cassis flavors prior to a heady finish that comes up short on complexity and nuance. This is entirely about fruit, fruit and more fruit. Hess Family Wine Estates

#3.KW12 2012 Remelluri Rioja Reserva / Tempranillo Rioja, Spain
Today’s Remelluri Reservas are consistent with those of the past: refined, elegant, and not much marked by racking - all oak influence is clean and
meaningful. However, since Telmo’s return it’s a noticeably brighter, marginally richer, fabulously brambly red berry wine with wonderful florals.
Tempranillo predominantly, with a little Graciano and Garnacha, plus field blend Viura and ‘Malvasia’. Fermentation is in large conical oak vats, with
pipeage. Malo is mainly in vats, with a portion in barrique. New oak ageing is reserved for the most structured fruit; most gains secondary character from
‘oxidative’ ageing in older wood. After about 17 months ageing, it’s bottled unfiltered.

“This is a ground-breaker - a quantum shift in Remelluri. Lovely framing tannin is filled with purply mountain herbs and carriers hints of pepper, toasted
lavender, sage, thyme. Fluidity inheres in and around a camshaft of tannin which quite literally gears the wine. Compelling”! James Suckling

#1.LW2 2018 Bodegas Fontana Mesta / Tempranillo Ucles, Spain
Mesta wines are part of the Fontana Bodegas & Viñedos producers group located in Ucles in Spain. They are a leading producer of Estate wines, owning
over 600 hectares, and managing a further 400 hectares of sustainably farmed, high-altitude vineyards in Castile, Central Spain. It has been owned by the
Cantarero Morales family for over 30 years.

Uclés is a region within the Castilla-La Mancha autonomous community of Spain. Located north of La Mancha, south of Mondéjar and east of Vinos de
Madrid, Uclés is one of the loftier designations in central Spain. A group of local producers formed a committee in 2002 to promote the area and push
for ‘Destination of Origin’ status, which it received in 2005. Jesús Cantarero, the current owner, has now brought together a highly experienced, eclectic,
multi-national team of wine professionals, including Sam Harrop MW, who produce authentic, contemporary wines of great purity and freshness. Enjoy
this with a variety of foods, from pizza to grilled red meat. It’s very versatile.

“A vibrant and juicy unoaked red wine, showing great purity and is typical of high-altitude Tempranillo. It is expressive and well-defined with aromas of red
berries, rosemary and a touch of liquorice”.
