GRENACHE & BLENDS

#2.KW12 2019 Marli Russell RP2 by Mount Mary Yarra Valley, Vic
55% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 20% Shiraz, 5% Cinsault, a blend of grapes that I’d never associate with Mount Mary, though perhaps it’s the shape of
         things to come.

“Ripe strawberry, raspberry, dried roses and herbs, redcurrant and rosehip jelly. Medium-bodied, but has impact, the quality of the tannin moving up a notch
this vintage, offset with cool limped acidity, succulent flavour, and a long finish shaped up with chalk dust tannin. A very strong release here. A pleasure to
         drink”. 95 points, Gary Walsh

#2.KW11 2017 Henschke Johanns Garden Barossa Valley, SA
Regarded as the best medium-sized red wine producer in Australia, Henschke has gone from strength to strength over the past three decades under the
guidance of winemaker Stephen and viticulturist Prue Henschke. The red wines fully capitalise on the very old, low-yielding, high quality vines and are
superbly made with sensitive but positive use of new small oak: Hill of Grace is second only to Penfolds Grange as Australia’s red wine icon. A founding
member of Australia’s First Families of Wine.

“Everything in sync with this 76/18/6% grenache/mataro/shiraz. It’s immediately appealing, with raspberry and blackberry flavours, warm earth and Chi-
nese five-spice. Ripe and plush with beautiful grainy, textural tannins and fresh acidity, all ensuring this will last some distance. Hard to resist now though”.
         95 points, James Halliday

#1.LW2 2019 Tonic Clare Valley / Adelaide Hills, SA
“Tonic Wines is a small batch project that was started by two friends with similarly nerdy wine habits. Glenn is an experienced winemaker with genuinely
practical skills…actually quite a lot of them. Dan’s background was in wine drinking, talking and educating and after a stint as a wine-stained cellar hand
he found he knew ‘righty-tighty, lefty loosy’ but that was about it. Glenn took over full ownership and running of Tonic in 2019. If you’d like something tasty,
unusual and imperfectly formed, you’ve come to the right place. Tonic Wines is a small batch Australian fine wine producer aiming to make the world just
a little bit more delicious. We make tiny quantities of Mataro, Grenache and Rose from the Clare Valley and Chardonnay and Nebbiolo from the Adelaide
         Hills”. Tonic

“Gee, this is very good. It’s pretty, quietly perfumed, bergamot, fresh mint, spice, and red fruits. Clean, clear, precise, with charming grip of what you might
call ‘Nebbiolo tannin’, gentle authority, succulence and cool acidity, and the finish is very long, and pure, a little nibble of almond and spiced orange peel as it
slides away. Beautifully made. Wonderful wine”. Gary Walsh-95 Points

#2.KW14 2019 Vanguardist MVG McLaren Vale, SA
“Cloth label. Hand sorted cork. Blewitt Springs. Made my Michael Corbett, who’s an all round choice bro.
Rich ripe raspberry, baking spices, musk and roses, subtle earthiness. Cool, clean, rich in red fruit, but keeps itself neat and tidy, sage and cinnamon spiced
nuts, beautiful sweep of ripe pixelated tannin, pure acidity, very long with raspberry and perfume trailing, and more of that graphite tannin cleaning up the
         finish. Outstanding.” Gary Walsh-97 Points

#2.KW15 2017 Clos Sauoma Inopia Rouge Cotes du Rhone, France
This domaine, which now totals 21 acres in Châteauneuf and an additional 22 acres in Côtes du Rhône-Villages, is creating a new paradigm for wine, a
statement I don’t make lightly. Saouma’s techniques are atypical; the results are simply thrilling. The reds are sublime, offering a purity of fruit I have rarely
seen anywhere, while harnessing the power of Châteauneuf into an elegant expression of Grenache on sandy soils.
Decant for 30 minutes prior to drinking with food, it’s not a quaffer.

“Best value of all, though, may by the Inopia, which comes from the ‘Clos Saouma’ vineyards sited in the Cotes du Rhone-Village of Vieux Bouigard near
Orange, surrounding the winery. The couple have nine hectares planted in this less expensive land – yet it’s soil potential is outstanding (clay over deep beds
of river rolled pebbles), and the wines, - one third white, two thirds red – are made accordingly to the same lees nourished unhurried principals” – Andrew
         Jefford” - Decanter
