to see these emotions expressed, as though it were bad
manners. Twinkle learned not to react when she did not
want to share a toy or do what she was asked to do. She
wanted to be like the other children and feel their
approval. If she let her feelings grow, friends and teachers
would turn away and leave her alone.
However, there was a secret group of the Andalaps
who knew the truth about their history, and were
determined to keep that knowledge alive. They knew that
emotions are part of the beauty of life, no matter what
planet you are on. They can be delightful and painful
both. Yet they saw the reason behind their ancestors'
decision to do all they could to stop fighting and wars.
One member of this secret group was an art teacher at
the school. She encouraged the children to draw with
their right hands, to use wild colour combinations and to
talk about the feelings that were stirred up by the art they
made. When an inspector came to observe the class, she
switched over to sculpture or weaving. The children
enjoyed their teacher and the projects so much, that they
