Chapter 3

This is what WISTAR researchers had learned in their

studies of the people over the ten-year period when travel

to Andalap became possible.

The origin story was to be one of the pieces that Phil

would be including in his book. The story was preserved

in art, music and spoken words. So ancient was this tale,

that no one could say if there was much truth in the

story, or if it had flowered through years of telling.

Anda and Lap were among the first living creatures on

this planet, many light years from earth. They had

evolved into humanoid beings after hundreds of millions
of years, from the time of the first signs of plant and

animal life.
They developed a complicated language, art, music,

and strong scientific understanding of nature and the

workings of the universe as they knew it. The art was

done with the coloured rocks and tree bark, ground into

paints of glorious colours. You might say they were

unearthly in their beauty.
