The Stars said goodbye at Vancouver airport,
promising to get in touch in a few weeks when they
arrived in Kelowna. Gramma and Grandpa headed for
their Toronto flight after a dozen big hugs. Mirabel's
family were going to visit Nana and Opa in Vancouver
for a couple of days. It was harvest time in the luscious
garden, and there were sure to be kale salads, fresh figs
from the fig tree, and marvellous morning porridge.
After a train ride, a ferry ride - you could see the two
lions on the mountain tops covered in snow - and a car
ride, they arrived at Nana and Opa's house.
Mirabel wanted to visit the garden immediately and
then the pink bathroom. While she had a bath, Nana read
to her from one of Ashley's old books; she has kept these
in good condition, along with some of her own
childhood books and dolls.
Meanwhile, Opa was making one of the famous kale
salads, with home grown tomatoes, beans and corn. An
excellent start to the visit. Trudel and Andre came for
dinner too, keen to hear stories from the amazing trip.
Over dinner, they described their trip to the family: the
pelicans, especially little Joe, the strange Gallina Renard,
