Pituitary gland: master gland, located at the base of the
brain, secretes human growth Hormone (hGH).
Thyroid gland: produces thyroxine and calcitonin
hormones which lower the calcium in the blood
Parathyroid gland: produces parathyroid hormones which
raise the calcium in the blood
Adrenal glands (located just above the kidneys): secretes
three hormones
Aldosterone: important for reabsorbing Sodium.
Cortisol: reduces inflammations
Adrenaline, epinephrine, or norepinephrine occurs when
there seems to be a sudden burst of energy during a
stressful situation.
Remember: the sympathetic system is most active in times
of emergency of stress, while the parasympathetic system
is most active when the body is relaxed.
