A Photographic Journey

Every city has its share of fires...
regardless of the fire fighting equipment,
planning or manpower...
some minor and some major fires
have taken valuable Kelowna landmarks...

This photographic journey covers the past ten decades
of fire protection in the City of Kelowna.
From the original Volunteer Fire Brigade
to the present Fire Department,
a portion of the community development and lifestyle
has been built by the Fire Fighters who belong to it.

This tribute is to the men and women
who have formed our past and present
and to those who will embrace the future...

Involvement in the public sector of the City of Kelowna
and the Kelowna Fire Department has provided me
the opportunity to photograph recent events and
research the history of the Fire Department.

This book is a collection of photographs, official Fire Brigade records,
City of Kelowna documents and actual accounts from
the Fire Fighters and officials of the Fire Department.
This documentation brings to life some of
the characters, incidents and events that have shaped
the development of the City of Kelowna Fire Department.

This venture began a few years ago when
the vision for providing a historical record became
an opportunity and investment...and I trust that it will be
rewarding for those who view and read these pages...
