My career - Horizon Consulting
informed opinion, including the fact that the budget
required was 40 MFB (1 M€), twice what they had planned.
After analysing our information, they agreed with our
conclusions, telling us that they could increase the budget,
but that they would never be able to reach the 40 MFB (1 M€).
In a very constructive manner, we tried to find solutions and
compromises so that the project could go ahead. For my
part, I had already agreed to reduce our prices and margins
to the limit of what was reasonable. With no more
commercial possibilities to move the mark, I came up with
the idea of dipping into our marketing budget. A new deal
was possible. I agreed to further reduce our prices, but -
contractually - I would also become the owner of version 1.
This proposal was accepted, and we developed the
accounting solution requested by this group of companies.
The project was completed on schedule. The
developments were very successful, as all the working
meetings were attended by accounting specialists. The
applications were functional, pragmatic and secure. We had
chosen very solid working environments: Microsoft
Windows for the presentation, Oracle for the database and
Powerbuilder as the development tool.
At the end of the project, I also became the owner of
version 1. This solution complied perfectly with Belgian
accounting legislation, but given the very specific context of
social housing, it did not manage VAT, nor did it have cost
accounting or other functionalities more specific to
commercial and industrial companies both in Belgium and
internationally.
