This confusion was likely to have repercussions on
everyday life: 1900 or 2000 for the birth of a child, the
retirement age 1900 or 2000? It also affected the safety of
military systems, aircraft and automated systems. In
short, it was a real problem.
For the changeover to the euro, the vast majority of
European currencies were expressed without decimal
places. However, the Euro required a minimum of
2 decimal places for display and 4 or even 6 decimal places
for calculations such as currency conversion.
In reality, all programs had to be adapted to these 2 new
constraints or, more simply, the most recent applications,
which had already integrated these new "date" and
"decimal" structures, had to be changed.

On these two points, in 1996 I had read a Boerenbond 106
study which explained that over 70,000 Flemish companies
would have to change their accounting software. This
information helped me when I had to make decisions about
the development of HI-Account.
On this basis, the conclusion was quite simple: after the
year 2000 and the changeover to the euro, companies would
no longer need to rush to change their accounting solutions.
They were going to return to a more conventional approach
of enhancing their "business" solutions. We therefore had to
develop the essential complement to HI-Account, the
"commercial" module we called HI-Distribution.
