Harley-Davidson trips
▪ Technique
From a technical point of view, it was well known
that riding a Harley-Davidson on non-American
roads was a bit of a "bummer", as the saying goes.
What's more, the vibrations – although pleasant for
the rider - were quite hard on the screws and bolts. It
was therefore common knowledge that, when riding
a Harley-Davidson, the tool kit was an indispensable
sidekick. The brand solved both these problems by
inserting Teflon inside each bolt and - on certain
models - attaching the engine block to block
cylinders. Thanks to these two improvements, for 15
years I've never had the slightest problem.
17.2 My first Harley-Davidson
Back to my 1st purchase, a car dealer near Brussels had just
started selling Harley-Davidsons. He displayed them in a
corner of the showroom. In 1998, I decided to buy my 1 st
motorcycle and chose the Road King model.
At the time, the collection had four ranges :
• The Sportster, small 1200CC
• The Softail including the classic' Heritage (huge success of the
brand)
• The Touring including the Road King 1450 cc
• The Electra Glide 1450 cc
I kept this bike until 2007. In May 2007, the Belgian market
was buoyant and had evolved well. A dozen dealers were
