Harley-Davidson trips
We set off at around 9.00 am, had a drink at around 10.30
am and stopped at around 12.30 pm. The place was well
chosen to receive the group for a good meal, and then we'd
head for home. Of course, alcohol consumption was very
rare and always very limited.
Once a year, on the last weekend in August, a special
2-day run was organized in Knokke. A lot of people took
part. Every year, between 80 and 100 motorcycles, each one
more beautiful than the last, came together. The Knokke
motorcycle police squad would join us about ten kilometres
before Knokke and, thanks to their presence, we could
parade along the dike, at a steady pace. We'd start near the
casino and make our way to the River Woods Beach Club for
a reception. When you ride in a procession, all the
motorcycles form a herringbone. The procession of 100
motorcycles stretched for over a kilometer. The dyke was
packed with people. The extraordinary thing was the look on
the children's (and adults') faces at the sight of so many
beautiful motorcycles parading past. On arrival at River
Woods, all the bikes were lined up for people to admire. In
the evening, we had dinner and a fun evening at Knokke Out.
At noon the next day, a good twenty bikers gathered - often
in the same place - for a prime rib lunch. By 4.00 pm, we
were on our way home.
