“Social Science: preparing students
for a rapidly changing world.”
Knowledge shapes the way communities grow,
develop, and respond to the challenges of a
changing world. In Social Science, we learn to
understand people—their behaviors, cultures,
beliefs, and the systems that guide everyday
life. This year, our Social Science program
focused on building students’ awareness of society
and strengthening their skills in critical thinking,
collaboration, and responsible decision-making.
The year 2025 has been incredibly fruitful and L-R: Mrs. Rakari, Mrs. Ratulevu, Ms. Kaur
eventful for the Social Science Department, I am Insert: Mr. Prasad (HOD)
honored to have the opportunity to present
a brief report of our department. The department has four dedicated educators who
specialize in Teaching Social science, Geography and History at different academic levels.
This year we’ve observed an increase in student’s enrollment in social science subjects,
marking a significant accomplishment for the Department. The inclusion of Citizenship
Education by the Ministry of Education under the Social Science Department this year helps
students understand their rights, responsibilities, and the laws of their country. This
knowledge allows students to participate properly in national life and make informed
decisions.
Throughout the year, the department organized various events like IDADAIT week, Ratu
Sukuna Day, Climate Awareness Week and Fiji Day. During this event students
demonstrated their skills and took part in dances, artwork, poems and speeches to celebrate
the occasions.
The Department has achieved significant advancements through effective teaching
methods, collaborative instructions, peer tutoring, afternoon classes and Saturday sessions.
Below are some key highlights:
▪ FY12CE: 80% passed Geography and 56% passed History [2024]
▪ FR13CE: 100% passed Geography and 100% passed History [2024]
As we reflect on this year, the message of Hosea 4:6 reminds us that knowledge is not just
information—it is a guiding light. Through Social Science, students grow in understanding
and are better prepared to make wise, informed choices that serve both themselves and the
wider community.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas filled with joy and prosperous 2026 ahead.
Mrs. Teresia Eraga Rakari
