VOLCANOES AND EARTHQUAKES
The loudest explosions are made by volcanoes. They blast out smoke, ash and
red-hot rocks.
Earthquakes are not as noisy, but they can make the land shake so much that
the ground cracks and houses fall down.
ERUPTING VOLCANO:
When a volcano blows up or erupts,it may make a terrible noise.
Smoke rises high, pieces of rock shoot out, some as big as houses!
Red hot melted rock,called lava,pours out,too.
As the Lava cools,it hardens.
GIANT WAVE:
Sometimes an Earthquake at the bottom of the sea pushes up the water into a
huge wave.
When the wave crashes onto the shore, it can destroy the whole towns.
The giant wave is called the Tsunami.
EARTH SHAKER:
An earthquake makes the ground wobble and shake.
Buildings and bridges and fall down, roads crack open and rail tracks bend.
Electricity wires, gas pipes and water pipes break.
There is a great danger of electric shock, fires and floods.
SLEEPING VOLCANO:
If a volcano goes to sleep and is inactive for many years it is called a Dormant
Volcano, but it may wake up at any time and explode at any time.
