THE EXCEPTIONAL HARLEY FETTERMAN
Preservation efforts began in the 1920's with the Redwood
National Park created in 1968, at which time 90% of the original
redwood trees had been logged. The United Nations actually
designated Redwood National and State Parks a World Heritage Site
in 1980 noting that the site also contained 50 prehistoric
archaeological sites spanning 4,500 years. The tallest tree in the park
is named Hyperion and is 379.1 feet tall.
