Then on to Wendover, Nevada, home of Guinness Book of Records
largest mechanical neon cowboy sign. There, they spent a quick thirty
minutes gambling. In Utah, they witnessed desert mirages as they
passed near the white sand/salt of Salt Lake. Then on to Cleveland-
Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, one of the world's foremost dinosaur fossil
sources.
Like most boys, Harley was really into dinosaurs at this time. They
had heard that there was an excavating place in Utah that had a
dinosaur museum located near a surrounding prolific fossil bed,
where more than 12,000 individual bones and one dinosaur egg had
been unearthed. To get there, they had to travel over four hours down
muddy dirt roads to find it. Finally there, they thoroughly enjoyed
exploring the site. However, when they left, it took them another three
hours to get back on a blacktop highway. They were never lost—only
on adventure. At the end of the day, their white Nissan Murano was
unrecognizable, covered in dried, red clay.
