Originally, silver and gold ore mined in the San Juan Mountains
were transported to Durango. The steam locomotive operates today as
a tourist line hauling passengers. Although in the 1940's several
Hollywood movies were filmed along the line. The D&SNGRR has
two museums, one in Durango and one in Silverton.
